Patricia Marks, CEO of SBA CIC, has been awarded the prestigious Winston Churchill Fellowship Silver Medal in London, a recognition of her outstanding contributions to economic development and social enterprise. This accolade celebrates Patricia’s dedication to empowering individuals through education, enterprise, and employment, as well as the impactful findings from her Churchill Fellowship journey.
Having secured her Winston Churchill Fellowship in 2017, Patricia embarked on a research tour across Australia and the United States in 2018 and 2019. Her study, titled Education, Enterprise, and Employment – Individual Journeys Back to Economic Activity, focused on identifying best practices for supporting individuals facing unemployment and career transitions. Her goal was to create practical solutions that help people regain economic independence.
During her travels, Patricia explored innovative employment programs and entrepreneurial initiatives, including Australia’s New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) and the USA’s Platform to Employment (P2E). She met with government officials, educational institutions, and business networks to examine how structured support can reintegrate individuals into economic activity. Her research emphasised the importance of mentorship, training, and networking opportunities, showcasing the role that businesses, communities, and policymakers play in bridging the gap between unemployment and self-sufficiency.
Upon returning to the UK, Patricia applied her insights to develop a working resource toolkit and a framework for local and national initiatives, ensuring that those at a crossroads in their careers receive tailored support and opportunities. Her findings have influenced policy discussions, enterprise support models, and community engagement strategies across multiple sectors.
This Silver Medal recognition highlights Patricia’s unwavering commitment to breaking barriers to employment and encouraging economic resilience. Her leadership at SBA CIC continues to empower individuals, businesses, and communities—a testament to the lasting impact of her Churchill Fellowship journey.
Congratulations to Patricia Marks on this well-deserved honour!
