Residents of Somerset can look towards a brighter future with the launch of SBA’s ground-breaking Employer Surgeries.
Designed to bring job seekers and local businesses together in a relaxed, informal manner, the inaugural event was held at Topline Glass and Glazing Ltd in Ilminster in March. The ‘Connecting to the Workplace’ initiative aims to reach out to anyone who may be struggling with unemployment or searching for a new career path. Whether due to illness, inexperience, or isolation the premises-based ‘surgeries’ support and guide residents by introducing them to businesses and professional areas that they may not have thought of or even knew existed.
This innovative approach connects local employers with potential employees, providing participants with a reassuring, non-threatening environment where they can confidently explore possible new career opportunities. Funded by Somerset Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the first event at Topline Glass and Glazing Ltd was a resounding success. Jeremy Bartlett and his team provided a warm welcome and a tour of their facilities before offering one-on-one discussions with the company’s HR manager. An overview of the company talks on a variety of topics and an insight into their environment on site helped visitors understand what Topline Glass & Glazing Ltd could offer them, and whether they would be a good fit. ‘We’ve already helped many unemployed Somerset residents gain clarity on career options, connect with local employers, and take steps towards meaningful work through the “Connecting to the Workplace” events.’ Patricia Marks SBA CEO.
Each surgery is tailored to fit the individual company, location and facilities. SBA carefully select the attendees from their wide client base matching them with the most appropriate area. For anyone trying to find a new job, for whatever reason, this is their chance to get expert guidance and support whilst discovering hidden opportunities. There are a huge variety or companies in Somerset but sadly many people struggling due to lack of work are unaware of this untapped resource. The Connecting to the Workplace programme helps raise awareness by introducing them to previously unknown or unexplored prospects.
The programme will continue throughout the year, ensuring participants are equipped with both the confidence, encouragement and resources needed to transition successfully into future new roles. SBA is delighted with the success of the programme so far and is looking forward to supporting and uplifting more Somerset residents with their future events.
