On the 14th May, Sue and Heather were thrilled to attend the Communities that Work annual parliamentary reception at the Houses of Parliament.Hosted by MP Jenny Riddell-Carpenter, the event featured insightful discussions with Alison McGovern MP, Minister for Employment, and Debbie Abrahams MP from the Work and Pensions Select Committee. SBA launch UKSPF Connecting to the workplace at Topline Glass in Ilminster
Residents of Somerset can look towards a brighter future with the launch of SBA’s ground-breaking Employer Surgeries. Designed to bring job seekers and local businesses together in a relaxed, informal manner, the inaugural event was held at Topline Glass and Glazing Ltd in Ilminster in March. The ‘Connecting to the Workplace’ initiative aims to reach out to anyone who may be struggling with unemployment or searching for a new career path. Enterprise Centre in Chard gets support from sba
Recently opened, this modern, spacious building is part of the Somerset Enterprise Centre Network which also has centres in Barle, Bruton, Frome, Highbridge, Minehead, Wells, Wheddon Cross, Williton and Wiveliscombe. The network has been developed by Somerset Council to provide managed business workspace across the county with business support services provided locally to tenants and the wider community. The Chard Enterprise Centre project was supported by the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020 and received part funding of £1,726,328 to support its delivery. GenZap, another CHOMP business launches
As part of the CHOMP project SBA CIC has been working with some of the young people at Young Somerset’s Bold & Brave shop, to set up a business. GenZap is a group of young creatives that make custom branded laser engraved products. They are currently busy fulfilling three orders for company branded coasters, chopping boards with images of Langport (drawn by the young people in GenZap) and bookmarks with inspirational quotes and images.
